Autism and Immunizations

Recently I read an article in the Parents magazine that there has been an increase in the number of cases of measles in the United States. These cases were because the parents did not have their children immunized because they are fearful of the reactions some children have had to the vaccinations. The American Academy of Pediatrics states that the adverse reactions are rare. The risk of measles has been reduced dramatically by the MMR vaccination. One of the scarier things is that the time frame for the vaccination coincides with the time when a child may exhibit signs of autistic behavior thus eluding to the conclusion that the vaccination leads to autism. The CDC’s Autism Information Center is a good source of information. Thimersol is also another issue because it has not been completely ruled out. Thimersol is a mercury based preservative that was used in the manufacturing of vaccines from the early 1980’s to 2003. Mercury is a neurotoxin and the levels were way above the safe guidelines; therefore, it is unknown the exact effects it had on the body. Luckily there are Thimersol free vaccines today and it has been removed completely. I do get my children vaccinated and I do the research. I feel it is safer to be vaccinated than not when you look at the big picture.
Until next time,
