Mother’s Choices

22nd October, 2009 - Posted by LocalMommy -

Each and everyday we as moms make choices. Most are the quick instant choices like juice or milk, sandals or boots and candy or no candy for breakfast.  Our choices do become more difficult and we weigh our options, research the information and always try to make the best choice for our child as an individual.

But now we have to decide about the swine flu shot and whether our children should receive this shot. The information is everywhere and it varies and it can be confusing. The CDC site is informative and will help you begin the process. I recommend talking to your family doctor and trusted individuals and becoming a very informed consumer. The news and government officials are all over the place. The vaccine is behind schedule and it appears they do not really know when the vaccine will be available for all who need it.

Vaccinations alone have always been a controversial subject. When my adult children were young they received a third of what my three year old received. Most of these shots are safe and have been around for decades and have had a profound effect on eliminating most childhood illnesses. But this flu vaccine is new in a sense even though they say it was derived from a standard flu vaccine and tweaked to combat this new virus. We want to trust and beleive in our government officials but in these times of controversy we have to be our childs best advocate. So become very educated on this so you can make the decision when the vaccine becomes available.

Until Next Time,
