It is Time to Leave the Nest

Nowadays you hear more and more about older children moving back home or never leaving home. We have experienced this and we still are sharing our home. It is now becoming time for everyone to move out and it seems this is creating a great deal of tension. I understand the anxiety of moving out on your own but it has to be done. As a parent you don’t want to be selfish but it is our responsibility to give them the tools or help them get on their feet and it is their responsibility to get out on their own. Why does it have to be such a battle? I know the world is different and the cost of living is higher especially with a family but as adults you have to do it just like everybody else. It is not wrong for parents to want their lives back and there is no reason to feel guilty when you finally say it is time to move out. It is hard but believe me it is for the best for everyone.
Until Next Time,

It is a tough decision, but you’re right that there should be no guilt. We’ve got a web site (http://www.adultchildrenlivingathome.com) and book that help families deal with adult children living at home, including strategies on how to make life as easy as possible while the adult kids are home, and how to know when it is time for them to leave. It can be much easier for everyone if there’s good communication ahead of time rather than waiting until everyone is furious and there’s a blowout.
